A few plain commitments about how the writing here gets done.

One person, writing from one house

Everything on this site is written and edited by Tessa Marchetti. I may use software to check spelling or tidy a sentence, but the memory, the judgment and the opinions are mine and they carry my name.

Lived first, written afterwards

I write about what has already happened in this house. If I have only read about a method for storing or mending something and have not done it myself, the article says so rather than pretending otherwise.

Honest by default

No manufactured warmth. If a tradition turned out to be more work than it was worth, I say that. If something I kept for thirty years should probably have been let go, that goes in as well. Sentiment is not a reason to give bad advice.

Care with old things

Advice about textiles, paper, photographs, wood and jewelry on this site stays at the level of what a careful person can do at home. Anything genuinely valuable, fragile or irreplaceable belongs with a professional conservator or a qualified jeweller, and the articles say so where it matters.

Independence

Commercial relationships, described on the affiliate disclosure page, never decide what is recommended here or how warmly. Nobody outside this house reads an article before it is published.

Updates and corrections

Articles get revised when I learn something better, and the last updated date on the page reflects it. If something here is wrong, tell me at [email protected] and I will correct it and say what changed.
